Young woman dressed as an angel #2
Here is the second stage of the painting, where the forms are being built up in ochre, raw and burnt umber tones. Only the viewer's left side has been worked up, and note too, that the verdaccio that was begun on the face, pales in comparison with the background. As the background is realized, I'll be going back to work up the face again. For the verdaccio mix, I've used Mars black, and yellow ochre, and deciding if I want to add chromium oxide green to the mix. The greenish hued underpainting will provide a good base for the subsequent red toned glazes that will go onto her face. Working up the underpainting in the face will never go deeper than a mid-tone value; I'll probably keep it about two values above the actual range. Also, please note the following IMPORTANT information. **DO NOT use Turpenoid Natural for thinning or diluting paint - this product should ONLY be used for cleaning brushes, and will not properly dry/set up on your canvas. Apparently the product simply called Turpenoid is acceptable for thinning your pigments, but NOT the Turpenoid NATURAL...
