Here is the dead layer completed. I've made the background darker, with a small amount of lighter shade around the head and neck area to make it stand out a little more. The next step is applying either opaque colour, glazes or a combination of them both to lay in the colour. I've left a fair amount of the penumbra/browns showing through that I would like to keep; notice also that the brush strokes are very loose. I am thinking of a cool hued background and outfit, putting warm hues on the face, chest and hand areas to create a strong visual contrast.
