Model with red hair #2
Using a mix of yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber and solvent, I start to define and model the figure. To keep things simple, I've asked the students use these colours and Flake White to mix up three values: light, medium, and dark. Using these hues, the portrait begins to emerge. I use a different brush for each value, and as the values get mixed, I sometimes use more brushes. (up to five, i.e. one #4-6 Bright for the light, another for the medium value, and one more in the dark value, and two small detail brushes in light and dark.
