Mona Lisa #2
The first layer serves to establish form, and is very light. It's made up of raw umber, mixed with equal parts of linseed oil, turpentine and a drying varnish,. Block in the major shapes, and shadows of the figure and background. The darker shade you see across the right shoulder and the veil, is the start of the second layer application. I used a mix of raw umber and phthalo blue - I like the cool dense feel of the shade, and continue to 'work-up' the forms; that is, giving contour and shape to the various dress folds, hair masses and skin tones. I'm presently finishing the 2nd layer, and will post it as soon as I can.
